Trusting yourself

In the corporate world, when we talk about leadership and teamwork and coporate culture, one of the main topics that all other topics come back to is TRUST.  We talk about how leaders must have the trust of those they are leading to be effective.  We know that teams must have trust between the teammates in order for the group to function effectively.  In marketing, we talk about how customers need to trust the brand. Trust is a big deal in the world of business.

While you’re building your business, and especially when you are planning to become self-employed, trust is also a critical factor in your success.  In the video below, I talk about why trusting yourself is so critical, and how to know if you need to work on trusting yourself more so you can make the brave leaps forward you need to make to really get your business flying.

Kenneth Bregman (writer for Harvard Business Review and leadership strategist) says:

This trusting of yourself is not just about writing a speech. It’s about speaking in meetings. It’s about choosing projects to pursue. It’s about advocating for budgets. It’s about having the courage to do work that moves you. Can you trust yourself enough to follow your own impulses?

If you need to work on trusting yourself, the best way to do that is to work with a good coach who can help you identify the things that might be keeping you from trusting more, and support you in building your self-trust.

Or you can just get out there and start making mistakes and learn along the way. But whatever you do, don’t go into this game without lots of self trust!  It will end up sabotaging your business and ultimately damage the relationship you have with yourself.

It’s time to start being brave and believing in yourself!

Below in the comments, I’d love to hear how trusting and believing your self would change your life.

What would you do if you knew for absolute certain that you’ll be okay and that you can trust your impulses and intuition?  How would you change the world??

  1. Rebecca, this was so true, and it is one of the most single most important things being an entrepreneur. As a transformational life coach working with entrepreneur’s inner game, it is the biggest issue. When clients are running around jumping from one shiny object to another we call that “Bright Shiny Object Syndrome”. The underlying issue is usually a matter of trust. Nicely said, well done. We could do some fun stuff together, wanna play?

  2. Rebecca, What you have posed here is so true! As a transformational life coach that helps coaches with their “inner-game” we see this is one of the most important factors in coaches not creating a great return on investment with their time, money and resources. We call it the “Bright Shiny Object Syndrome.” To trust ones self as an entrepreneur is to be fully invested in the journey of success. Nice Job! Well Done. LOVE!

  3. Thanks so much, Karen!

What is great about this journey of trusting oneself is that a lot of the lessons we’ve learned in other forms of work can totally apply. The fun part is reshaping those lessons about leadership and teamwork and really growing by applying them to our day to day activities. Without trust, nothing works! And that includes our own businesses.

  4. I am always up for some PLAY, Karen! Just show me where to sign up. ;)
